Put together your team, find the right way up on a map and then take on everything The Geoffrey Gordon Cup has to offer – from mountain tops to exhilarating activities, we have it all.
We’re back in the North Yorkshire Moors visiting Ravengill Campsite in Commendable. We’ve got a great route, with a bonus challenge and exciting activities and we’re challenging Explorers from around the North East to join us. It’s a mix of a massive incident hike and an huge orienteering challenge.

You’ll need to be at your best to complete our exhilarating physical and mental challenges to win the ultimate prize! Here’s what you can expect:
- Friday Night – We ask all our teams to arrive on the Friday night at the start point for a briefing and to plan your route for Saturday.
- Saturday – Teams start their challenge on the Saturday with a route of around 18km completing all the challenges which face them – in the past we’ve done everything from a Jacob’s ladder, high rope challenges to a massive marble run! There are points available for every activity that you take part in.
- Saturday Night – The competition stops for a few hours and we relax with a Film, Music, Food and Games!
- Sunday – Our event on Sunday takes a different twist and features lots of different activities in the local area. You’ll need to be fast and plan well to pick up all the points!
Expect to have a great time with your team, take part in some new and exciting activities, have a laugh and push yourself to win.

To get the best experience out of The Geoffrey Gordon Cup all teams should make sure they can:
- Handle the basics of First Aid for common outdoor bumps and issues
- Pitch their tent confidently in the dark
- Use a map and compass and know how to write and follow a route card
- Use a stove safely and cook simple meals outdoors
- Undertake a practice hike to build confidence
- Complete a full kit check so nothing important gets left behind

Teams of between 4 and 7 Explorer Scouts from anywhere in the North East can take part. Teams from outside of Durham Scout County compete to win The Geoffrey Gordon Invitation Trophy which was generously donated to us by Durham Cathedral.
You’ll need experience of being outdoors and navigation and the team will need to provide their own hike tents, walking kit and cooking equipment.
If you’re entering you’ll need a copy of the menu to send to us:
