Adventure is at the heart of everything we do
We offer hundreds of activities, as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, fencing, archery, and the list goes on. There’s something for every young person, whatever their physical ability.
The purpose of Scouting is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
The Founder of Scouting, Baden Powell, had a vision from which a Movement has grown, so that Scouting is found today in every corner of the land.
Scouting happens principally in Scout Groups, Explorer Scout Units and Scout Networks, where boys and girls meet to enjoy the Scout programme.
We’re made up of 14 Districts, which consist of over 100 Scout Groups that run Squirrel, Beaver, Cub, Scout, Explorers and Network on a weekly or flexible basis. Each District and Scout Group have volunteers that help run the sections but also make up support teams and Trustee Boards.
What we do
Durham Scouts is responsible for supporting all the Districts, Scout Groups, Volunteers and Young People across the County. We do this by:
- Organising a programme of adult learning, so our volunteers can gain essential skills.
- Provide advice and support to anyone who needs it, through our County Team Leaders and Support Teams.
- Put together a programme of events that enhances the weekly programme.
- Run the Moor House Adventure Centre, that provides activities and a Scout Shop with all the essentials.
