Trustee Board – Fundraising

When: Around 8-12 meetings per year, plus occasional support as needed Open Volunteer Spots: 1

As a Trustee, you’ll:

  • Provide strategic direction and support to the County
  • Ensure good governance, financial oversight and compliance
  • Help us grow, reach more young people, and deliver our vision
  • Bring your skills, insight and fresh thinking to the table

You don’t need Scouts experience – just a passion to make a difference.

Role Description

  • Act as a Charity Trustee, helping to ensure the County Scout Council operates safely, effectively, and in line with charity law and The Scouts’ Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR)
  • Contribute to the strategic leadership and governance of the County, supporting its long‑term financial sustainability
  • Lead and advise the Trustee Board on fundraising and income‑generation strategy, including grants, donations, sponsorship, and partnerships
  • Provide oversight and support to County fundraising activities, ensuring they are ethical, well‑governed, and aligned to Scouts values
  • Work collaboratively with fellow Trustees and key volunteers, sharing collective responsibility for Trustee Board decisions

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience in fundraising, income generation, grants, sponsorship, or donor engagement, ideally at a strategic or advisory level
  • Understanding of charity governance and financial oversight, or willingness to develop this as a trustee
  • Ability to think strategically about diverse and sustainable income streams
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to support and challenge constructively
  • Commitment to the values, safeguarding principles, and inclusive ethos of The Scouts
