Durham Scouts is growing and going from strength to strength, but with more young people wanting to join every week we need more adult volunteers to help us develop and deliver fun, exciting and challenging programmes that help us deliver Skills for Life.
We want to provide all young people (girls and boys) in Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland, County Durham and Darlington with the best possible opportunities in life and we’d love you to help us achieve that.
We have opportunities for you to work directly with young people, but there are also plenty of other jobs you can do to support our section leaders. Whatever your skills or experience, however much time you have to give, we can help you put your skills and time to good use and we can guarantee that you’ll have a great time enjoying ‘the game of Scouting’

Inclusion Team Leader

Future Leaders Programme
Passionate about leadership development, inspiring the next generation of volunteers? We’re looking for a Future Leader Team Leader to lead the creation & implementation of our exciting new Future Leaders Program
County Programme Team Leader
The brains behind it all, our wonderful Programme Team creates the safe, fun and inclusive activities enjoyed by young people across the land.
Temporary Group Lead Volunteer
Help 2nd Burnopfield Scouts through a short period of transition as Temporary Group Lead Volunteer. Up to 4 months from 30 September, providing continuity and support while the longer-term role is recruited.
Beavers Team Member
At the beating heart of our programme, we need Team Members. Our Beavers Team Members break the mould and create bold environments for their Beaver Colonies to grow, play and explore.
Cubs Team Member

Squirrels Section Team
Bringing the ‘Wow!’ to our youngest Scouts, in a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment, the Section Teams make it happen for our Squirrels.

With their vital behind the scenes role, our Trustees are dedicated to making sure Scouts runs smoothly, safely, and legally.
Support Team Member - Communications
Help Durham City District Scouts stay connected and running smoothly behind the scenes. The Support Team provides essential digital and communications support across the District.

Recent research has shown that the majority of people who volunteer report having improved life satisfaction and improved self-esteem and also have reduced feelings of loneliness and stress. Nearly two thirds also said that since starting volunteering they have developed useful employability skills; with a majority saying they feel more confident and more motivated in their jobs.
As a volunteer with Durham Scouts you’ll not only help our young people develop Skills for Life, but you’ll also develop your own transferable skills which you can take into education and employment. You’ll also get to take part in new adventures, experience the great outdoors (if that’s your thing), make lots of new friends and have a lot of enjoyment.
