In October, 1st Fatfield Scouts had a weekend camp with an international theme, in which they participated in JOTA-JOTI.
First they competed in a Taskmaster game. Their Young Leader, Matthew, organised and hosted this event where there were over 350 scouts from 27 countries. They competed in challenges in groups against others on an online competition. One of the Fatfield groups came second out of the whopping 70 teams !
Next, they joined an online call with an American scout troop called Troop 304 from Santa Paula, California. When they spoke to these scouts, they compared their lives and cultures. They discussed their annual summer camp and compared it with the American scout troop. Then they moved away from scouting and talked about life in the UK and in the USA. After this, they then spoke to a group from Washington DC, which was special to 1st Fatfield as they are based in Washington, UK. They spoke about culture and history from both areas that linked to eachothers.
After this, they sat and planned some Japanese sentence’s and phrases, then spoke to their final group; from Osaka Japan. They enjoyed the challenge of communicating with people who struggled with English as it gave the scouts an opportunity to learn some Japanese phrases. They were shocked to learn it was 6pm here in Britain and 3am in Japan!
After this, they set our tents up, ate pizza and sang karaoke to top off an excellent day of adventure!
