This week (2nd–8th June) is Volunteers’ Week – a time to recognise the incredible contribution of volunteers all across the country. And here in Durham Scouts, we want to shine a spotlight on the fantastic people who make everything we do possible.
From our weekly section leaders to the behind-the-scenes heroes who manage admin, accounts, badges and buses — every single volunteer plays a vital role in helping young people learn new skills, grow in confidence, and have adventures they’ll never forget.
Thank You to Our Team
Our volunteers are role models, team players, listeners, encouragers and organisers. They give up their time (and often their Saturdays!) to make sure young people across our 14 districts have access to amazing opportunities through Scouting.
Whether it’s putting up a tent in the rain, helping with craft night, sorting risk assessments or simply being a listening ear — we see you, and we thank you.
You are the heart of Durham Scouts.
Could You Join the Adventure?
Volunteers’ Week is also the perfect time to ask: could you see yourself in a Scout scarf?
Volunteering with Scouts isn’t about how much you know — it’s about how much you care. Whether you can give an hour a week, a day a month or just help now and then, we’d love to hear from you. We have flexible roles for everyone, and you’ll be supported every step of the way.
“I started helping just once a month and quickly found myself loving it. It’s fun, friendly, and really rewarding.” – Sophie, Local volunteer
You’ll gain new skills, meet new people, and know you’re making a real difference in your community. It’s good for you – and even better for the young people we support.
