It was a weekend of birthdays, adventure and celebration at Moor House Adventure Centre as Durham Scouts marked two very special Scouting milestones – 40 years of Beaver Scouts and 5 years of Squirrel Scouts!
Across the weekend of 13th–14th June 2026, Beavers and Squirrels from across the County came together at Moor House for two fantastic days filled with adventure, friendship, laughter and plenty of birthday fun.
Saturday: Celebrating 40 Years of Beaver Scouts
Saturday 13th June saw Moor House filled with Beavers for our Beaver Picnic 2026, as we celebrated an incredible 40 years of Beaver Scouts in the UK.
Beavers from across Durham came together for a brilliant day of activities and adventure, making new friends, trying new things and creating some fantastic memories along the way.
Of course, no birthday would be complete without a celebration, and it was wonderful to see so many of our Beavers together to mark four decades of fun and adventure.

Sunday: Celebrating 5 Years of Squirrel Scouts
The celebrations continued on Sunday 14th June, when it was the turn of our youngest members as we celebrated 5 years of Squirrel Scouts in the UK.
Squirrels from across the County joined us at Moor House for their own action-packed birthday celebration.
For some of our young people, it was one of their first opportunities to take part in a large County Scouting event – enjoying new experiences, meeting other Squirrels and having plenty of fun along the way.
It was a fantastic way to celebrate just how much Squirrel Scouts has grown since the section officially launched in 2021.

One Weekend, Two Big Birthdays!
From 40 years of Beavers to 5 years of Squirrels, it was a very special weekend celebrating two generations of our youngest Scouts.
A huge thank you goes to all of the volunteers who helped plan, organise and deliver both events, as well as the Section volunteers who brought their Beavers and Squirrels along and helped make the weekend such a success.
And, most importantly, thank you to all of our Beavers and Squirrels who joined us for the celebrations!
