February sees the first of our major county led events – our Awards Day. After the dark nights of winter it is always a joyous and uplifting day, celebrating the successes of our young people and adult volunteers.
We are also starting to plan on how we celebrate the three major section birthdays we have this year… Squirrels turn 5, Beavers celebrate 40 years, Cubs reach an amazing 110 years. We are very conscious that groups and districts always have very packed programmes and squeezing things in at a county wide level can be challenging.
So Beaver picnic will be no ordinary picnic, we will transform the day into a fantastic 40th birthday party, Cubboree will be a weekend of fun centring on celebrating 110 years of cubs. We have never had a Squirrels only event so what better time to start than with a 5th year Birthday party. Shortly we will be consulting with all Squirrels Team Leaders and Team Members on what that day should look like… so get your thinking caps on.
Census time is upon us when we take a snapshot of what scouting looks like at both a local and national level. It also allows us to identify opportunities to expand the scope and reach of scouting to more young people. More on this next month.
And finally, simply Thank You for all that you do…..
