On Saturday 10th May, Cubs from across Durham came together at Moor House Adventure Centre for the annual Pete Swinney Competition — a fun-filled event designed to challenge, excite, and bring out the best in teamwork.

Armed with maps and plenty of enthusiasm, Cubs had two hours to explore the site, choose from a wide range of activities, and collect as many points as possible. Each challenge, located around Moor House, tested different skills – from problem-solving to collaboration – and offered varying point values for successful completion. Cubs had to navigate their way to the activities of their choice, using basic map-reading skills, although no orienteering experience was required.

The event welcomed both seasoned Cubs and first-timers, with larger activities run by Moor House staff and smaller, creative challenges organised by the leaders of visiting Cub packs. Whether aiming to win or simply taking part for the adventure, every Cub had something to enjoy.

After an exciting two hours of non-stop action, 1st Consett Cubs emerged as the 2025 winners – congratulations to them!

Thank you to everyone who took part, especially the leaders who helped bring the activities to life. We’re already looking forward to next year’s challenge!
