The Durham Scout First Aid Team are our in-house experts in first aid. If you already deliver First Response, are interesting in further developing your first aid skills as an adult, want to help with first aid cover at events or whether you’d just like to do a better job training and supporting first aid as part of the youth programme, the First Aid Team is where you belong.
What does the First Aid Team Do?
The First Aid team are responsible for supporting first aid in the county by:
- Providing guidance and advice on first aid and medical matters and other relevant health issues
- Providing training and assessment in the form of first response and other, more advanced qualifications
- Providing comprehensive and professional first aid and medical cover for all County competitions, activities and events
- Promoting first aid as an important aspect of scouting and everyday life to adult and youth members
What is a Scout Active Support Unit?
Scout Active Support allows people to give their time to Scouting on a flexible basis. People can still be involved in Scouting without the full-time commitment of being a leader. Find out more on the Scout Active Support website.
Please note that membership of a County SASU brings with it a responsibility to assure the safety, safeguarding and data of our young people and fellow adult volunteers. If not already completed in another Scouting role, membership of a County SASU therefore brings with it the necessity to complete certain training within five months of joining the SASU. This consists of Module 1 ("Essential Information"), GDPR training and from September 2020, online safety and safeguarding training.
How does the team work?
The team is made up of like minded people who gave a specific interest in first aid. Here is how it works:
- We'll sort out all your paperwork (including adding your new role to Compass and a DBS check if you're not already a member), so you're ready to roll.
- You'll be kept up to date with all the latest news about
- Upcoming events where first aid support is needed,
- County first aid courses where we need help
- When we're in the process of organising an event or training, we'll ask you if you want to volunteer to help and send you information on how to register.
- You may decide to take on a specific role - such as taking overall responsibility for organising an event or running a team
